Description
Osborn's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th century and later. It features a timber frame that is rendered and colorwashed, with some areas clad in brick. The building has a steeply-pitched pantiled roof with two levels and is 1 and a half storeys high, with a rectangular plan and attic rooms above the upper storey at the west end. The eastern end has a 20th-century brick extension. The roof is higher at the west end and includes an axial chimney stack with four diagonally-set linked shafts at the eastern end of the higher range. There is a 20th-century stair projection with an unequal-pitched roof that extends from the south wall.
On the west side of the stair projection, there are two 2-light casement windows. The east range features a mix of 20th-century casements and one restored 3-light mullion window at ground floor level. There are also two gabled dormers with 3-light casements that have glazing bars. A 20th-century ridge stack is located at the junction with the new east end. On the north side, there is a small wedge dormer for the attic, a 4-light mullion window to the west, and three ground floor casements to the east.
Inside, the farmhouse has beams with ogee and stepped run-out chamfer stops. The west end has an inserted first floor, where the tie beam is cut between the wall plates and upper crucks, with a collar beam added to provide a roof tie. The roof over the west end is a clasped-purlin type, while the east end features one queen post truss with a cambered tie beam.
