Description
The Pillbox (South) at the former RAF Stoke Holy Cross is a Grade II listed structure built as an AM5 Pillbox according to an Air Ministry design, constructed from brick.
The pillbox has a rectangular plan with two chamfered corners. It features an entrance corridor that runs parallel to the back wall and includes a Y-shaped internal blast wall.
On the exterior, the pillbox is rendered and topped with a reinforced concrete cap. The sides and chamfered corners have loopholes that are protected by concrete shades. The roof shows remnants of steel stanchions that were used to hold wire, and aerial photography indicates that an anti-aircraft weapon was once mounted there, although the mounting is no longer present.
Inside, the pillbox is made of brick, but no fittings remain.
