Description

Type AM5 Pillbox constructed to an Air Ministry design from brick.

PLAN: The pillbox is rectangular in plan, with two chamfered corners. There is an entrance corridor parallel with the back wall and a Y-shaped internal blast wall.

EXTERIOR: The exterior of the pillbox is rendered, with a reinforced concrete cap. The sides of the pillbox and the two chamfered corners have loopholes protected by concrete shades. The remains of steel stanchions for holding wire are visible on the roof. Aerial photography suggests that an anti-aircraft weapon was mounted on the roof at some point, but the mounting is no longer there.

INTERIOR: The interior of the pillbox is of brick. No fittings remain.
