Description

Langley Cross is a historic cross, likely of medieval origin, that was relocated in the 19th century to mark the junction of four parish boundaries. It features a limestone shaft and base set on a red brick plinth. The circular red brick plinth supports a hexagonal base, which is carved with the names of the parishes: Chedgrave, Carleton, Langley, and Thurton. The square cross shaft is adorned with four figures on tall pedestals, each under crocketted canopies. The capital of the shaft includes symbols representing the four evangelists. The cross itself is missing. This site is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
