Description

High House is a house that has been subdivided, dating from the 17th century and later. It is constructed of red brick and features steeply-pitched pantiled roofs. The building has two storeys and an additional half storey. The earlier section to the east is a remnant of a larger 17th-century house, with one ground floor sash window and two first floor sash windows, all featuring glazing bars. The ground floor sash has a segmental head and is set in a reduced opening. The east gable has crow-stepped detailing and moulded brick eaves that overhang, along with a rebuilt internal chimney stack. There is a 20th-century attic casement window in the west gable and a single course platband at first floor level.

To the east, there is a later single-storey gabled extension, and to the west, a lower two-storey range that has four window openings, including sashes with glazing bars and 20th-century casements. The house has two entrance doors, one of which is half glazed, and a plain brick string course. There is one chimney stack on the ridge line and an internal stack at the west gable. On the north side, a large blocked first floor window opening can be seen in the earlier range, with a pantiled lean-to below. A much rebuilt gabled projection to the north has two storeys and features 20th-century casements, while the ground floor walls contain significant flintwork. Inside the earlier range, there are two notable 17th-century fireplaces with panelled overmantles and a contemporary winding stair beside the stack.
