Description
Hill House Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, constructed of colour-washed brick and timber frame, topped with a glazed black pantile roof. It likely features a hall and cross-passage plan with flanking cross-wings. The facade consists of four bays, with two stories and attics. The left gabled bay is set forward and has an off-centre ground floor window in the brick wall. The first floor jetties out and has a rendered timber frame, featuring a four-light casement window, while the attic has a three-light casement. The remaining three bays are of brick and include two three-light casements, with a 19th-century door and overlight between them. There are three casements on the first floor, and the fourth bay has a gable with a bressumer beam and an attic casement. An off-centre axial stack has two octagonal shafts, and the right gable end stack also has two octagonal shafts leading to a stepped gable. At the rear, there is a 17th-century brick stair bay with a six-light mullioned and transomed window featuring ovolo moulding, along with a 19th-century wing and outshut.
Inside, the hall occupies the central two bays and features a roll-moulded massive transverse beam. The left crosswing has a roll-moulded beam adorned with carved foliage decoration. The stair bay off the hall includes a staircase with turned balusters and newels topped with spheres. The roof has butt-purlins and arch-braces in the left bay, while the rest of the roof is inaccessible.
