Description
14 and 14A Damgate Street is a shop and flat with origins dating back to the 17th century, though it has been altered since then. The front is made of colourwashed brick, while the rear parts are partly timber-framed. The building has a pantile roof and stands two storeys tall, arranged in three bays, with an additional bay for a carriage entrance on the north side, accessed through double timber doors. The central entrance features a 20th-century glazed door, flanked by a three-light casement window on each side, both with opening top lights. On the first floor, there are two three-light metal casement windows from the early 19th century. The roof is bell-based and gabled, with an internal gable-end stack located on the south side. The rear of the building has a large weatherboarded gable above the carriage entrance. Inside, there is a large chamfered bridging beam and plain joists on the ground floor, along with a 20th-century rebuilt fire surround. The first floor has not been inspected.
