Description

Appletree Cottage and The White House is a house that has been divided into two dwellings, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of clay lump on flint footings and is colourwashed, with some parts rendered. The building features a pantile roof and consists of four bays with a central chimney bay, standing two storeys high. There is a two-storeyed wing attached to the second bay. The structure has end external stacks and a central axial stack.

Appletree Cottage occupies the left side of the first two bays and has a forward wing at the second bay. It is made of colourwashed clay lump and has an end external stack made of 18th-century brick, which features shallow recesses and moulded stone caps to the steps. The ground floor of the first bay and both floors of the bay two wing have 19th-century casements with four narrow lights and stop-chamfered mullions. There is a door to the right of bay one, which is sheltered by a rustic porch in the angle.

The White House is the range to the left, consisting of two bays. The left bay is rendered clay lump on a flint base, while the right bay was rebuilt in brick around 1952. There is a doorway to the left, dating from around 1952, which has a flat canopy above it. The ground floor of both bays features four-light casements, while the first floor has two 2-light openings in the first bay and a three-light opening from 1952 in the second bay. The right return has an external brick stack from around 1952, and there is a small opening in the ground floor chimney bay. Several additions have been made to the rear of the building, but these are of no special interest.
