Description
The Thatched House is a 16th-century timber-framed house that has been rendered and colourwashed, featuring a half-hipped thatched roof. The building consists of two cells with a central chimney bay and an additional timber-framed cell to the left. It is one storey high with an attic. A full-height stair turret, added around 1930, is located at the front of the chimney bay and is made of colourwashed brick with a thatched roof. The axial stack was rebuilt in the 18th century and includes oversailing and a sawtooth cornice.
The facade facing the road to the north has small casement windows with glazing bars in each bay. The left and right returns feature swept half dormers that follow the hips of the roof. The right return has a 19th-century lean-to constructed of clay lump and part brick facing, topped with pantiles. The left return has two adjacent casements with glazing bars. The stair turret has a gable and a tall stair casement window with glazing bars, along with a doorway to the left return that is sheltered by a thatched canopy.
At the rear, the first cell has a two-light casement window, while the second cell features a French window with glazing bars and a fixed light with glazing bars consisting of three panes by three panes to the right, along with a dormer in the attic. Inside, some timber framing is visible, including sole plates and wall plates, along with some infill of wattle and daub, and a collarless roof.
