Description

The Ashby St Mary war memorial, erected around 1920, honors those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. It features a simple metal Latin cross on a tall square stone pillar, which is set on a stone plinth and a two-stepped stone base. The plinth has a recessed panel on its east side with an inserted metal plaque that reads: ‘TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF/ (3 NAMES)/ WHO FELL IN BATTLE 1914-8’. A stone tablet was later added to the south side of the plinth, stating, ‘TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF/ (NAME)/ WHO FELL IN BATTLE 1939/1945’. The memorial is located within the churchyard of the Church of St Mary in Ashby St Mary, positioned to the left of the church's south porch.
