Description
Ashby Hall is a country house dating from the early 18th century, which was refronted in the early 19th century. The earlier sections are constructed of red brick, with a gault brick addition to the west. The building features black glazed pantile roofs, hipped over the later range. It has a T-shaped plan with two storeys and a double pile range to the east.
The symmetrical west facade consists of three bays with sash windows that have glazing bars and gauged brick arches above the openings. The central doorway is half-glazed with a two-leaf design, featuring bolection moulded lower panels, and is flanked by a porch supported by two pairs of unfluted Ionic columns. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top, and there are two ridge stacks with recessed panels on either side of the centre bay.
There are 20th-century flat-roofed extensions to the north and south, and sash windows in the north and south walls, with one blind opening on the first floor of the north wall. The earlier red brick, double pile range to the east includes sash windows with glazing bars and architraves, as well as some casements. The east gables are twin-shaped, and there are two panelled ridge stacks with square moulded bases. A pantiled one-storey lean-to is located at the north-east corner.
Additionally, there is an attached red brick boundary wall featuring shallow buttresses, a stepped plinth, and half-round coping. The wall includes a semi-circular headed garden entrance door, and the gate piers have been rebuilt.
