Description
Nos. 23 to 27 on St Andrew's Street is a former house that has been converted into shops. It dates from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 18th century. The building has a rendered finish and a flint wall on the west side, topped with a pantile roof. It has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys plus an attic, featuring six first-floor windows. There is a left-hand off-centre door framed by plain pilasters and an architrave, along with three 20th-century shopfronts. A carriage entry is located at the extreme right. The building has sash windows throughout, set in plain reveals, and a moulded fascia cornice. There are three large dormer gables, two of which contain casement windows, while one has a sash window. The roof structure includes staggered butt purlins over the entire range. Notably, the antiquary J. Kirkpatrick once lived in this house.
