Description
No. 34 on St. Benedict's Street is a former public house, now functioning as a shop, built in the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick and features masonry details such as quoins, a first-floor frieze adorned with fleur-de-lys in relief, and a floor stringcourse. It has a pantile roof and consists of three storeys with three bays. The central entrance includes a semi-circular fanlight above a 20th-century door. The façade is enhanced by central and end pilasters that display flower motif roundels and composite capitals.
There are two three-light windows with semi-circular heads, featuring cast-iron mullions with stiff-leaf capitals, a simple moulded base, and decorative spandrels. Above these, the sash windows have semi-circular top lights and horizontal glazing bars, all framed by raised and panelled surrounds with keystones and moulded imposts. The second-floor windows also have raised and moulded surrounds. The building is capped with a bracket cornice supported by moulded brick kneelers.
