Description
The Plough Inn is a public house located at 58 St Benedict's Street. The building has a rear range dating from the 16th century and a street range from the early 17th century. It features early medieval stone quoins in the 17th century Little Plough Yard range. The construction includes flint rubble, brick, and a rendered street front, topped with pantile roofs, and has an L-shaped plan.
The street range is two storeys high and has three first floor windows. The 19th century pub front includes a central door flanked by mullion and transom windows. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars and keystones. There are brewery pub-name plaster ovals with swags between the windows and a paired bracket cornice. The building also features two gable dormers with casement windows and barge-boards.
The rear range has two first floor windows and a 20th century door at the extreme right. The ground floor includes an eleven-light casement window, while the first floor has casements as well. There is a small 20th century dormer with a flat roof.
