Description
No. 2 Redwell Street is a Grade II listed building that was originally of unknown use and is now an office. The structure features red brick and stands three storeys tall with two bays. It has a 19th-century shopfront and side-hung casements with top lights set in raised and moulded surrounds. Beneath the building is a 15th-century undercroft made of brick, which consists of two bays with diagonal and cross ribs, wall arches, and a long pointed barrel vault that extends beneath the pavement of Redwell Street. An open corridor with small cross ribs runs along the south side of the undercroft, and the end ribs turn diagonally, possibly reflecting one of the 15th-century entry arrangements. The building is designated Grade II due to the significance of the undercroft, which is part of an important group within the City Walls.
