Description
No. 5 Bank Plain is an office building constructed in 1899 by E. Boardman. It is built of ashlar and has three storeys with a symmetrical three-window range. The bays are defined by pilasters on the upper floors. The ground floor features a round-headed arcade supported by part-fluted half-columns, with part-fluted Corinthian pilasters at either end and flanking a central door. Above, there is a plain entablature with a moulded cornice that includes consoles supporting a central segmental balcony with a balustrade. The first and second floors have tripartite windows on the right and left, featuring large-pane sashes set in moulded architraves, with pediments above the first-floor windows. The building is topped with a dentilled eaves cornice beneath a parapet that also has a balustrade. To the left, facing Queen Street, there is a similar two-window range.
