Description
This is a house dating to around 1840. It is built of yellow brick with some rendered details, and has a hipped slate roof, two brick ridge chimneys with moulded caps, and is two storeys high. The symmetrical facade has three first-floor windows and end pilasters. Steps lead up to a panelled front door in a rendered architrave flanked by pilasters and two plain Tuscan columns supporting a large hood with a plain entablature. There is an overlight above the door. Ground floor windows have large-paned sashes in rendered architraves, and the first-floor sashes have glazing bars under flat, gauged brick arches. A pediment features above the slightly projecting central bay, and the eaves overhang. A 20th-century lean-to has been added to the left side. A substantial late 19th-century extension, with a mansard roof and dormer windows, is located at the rear. Originally known as The Plantation, the house is situated within gardens designed by Henry Trevor between 1856 and 1870.
