Description
Chestnut Farmhouse is a 17th-century house that has been altered over time. It is constructed of flint with brick dressings and features a glazed black pantile roof. The building has a three-cell plan, which is now subdivided, and a facade with four bays across two storeys. The early 20th-century casements are present, and there is a blocked small window on the extreme left between the floors. A 20th-century door is located in the second bay, and there is a small blocked light on the extreme right with chamfered reveals, similar to those on the first floor. The first floor has four casements, and there is evidence of earlier openings with 17th-century brick reveals. The gable features moulded kneelers and gable-end stacks, while the left-hand gable has two blocked lights that are now cut by a shallower pitched roof, along with an added single-storey range that has a hipped roof. The right-hand gable contains 19th-century windows, and the rear of the house is partly obscured by vegetation. A central long window on the ground floor is now blocked, and there is a small light between the floors at the left-hand end.
Inside, the right-hand ground floor room has an English bond brick fireback, an ovolo moulded bressummer beam with bar and ogee stops, and additional ovolo moulded beams. The left-hand upper room features panelling with ogee mouldings on the muntins and two doors that now lead to cupboards. The spine beam has a heavy chamfer.
