Description
The two attached barns at Brumstead Hall Farm date from the late 18th century, with the eastern barn built in that period and the western barn dated 1807, marked by the initials W.D. for William Durrant on the west gable head. Both barns are constructed of brick and topped with thatched roofs. The eastern barn features a transept outshut on its north side, which includes a pedestrian doorway. On the south side, there are full-height double doors, against which 20th-century cattle byres have been added in the outshut. The western barn is distinguished by two strip pilasters and has central full-height sliding doors on its north flank, flanked by two casements that are now blocked with brick. The gable heads of both barns show tumbling. The roof of the western barn consists of tie beams, three tiers of taper-tenoned butt purlins, and collars, with some straight windbracing. The eastern barn's roof also has tie beams, three tiers of taper-tenoned butt purlins, and two tiers of collars, with the upper tier being cambered.
