Description
Brumstead Hall is a farmhouse that originated as a 15th-century hall house, with an early 19th-century facade and alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of flint and brick, featuring a brick facade and a slate roof. The facade is two storeys high and divided into three irregular bays, which reflect the layout of the original 15th-century plan. To the right of the centre is a 20th-century pedimented doorcase with a door. The windows include a mix of sashes and casements, two of which date back to the early 19th century. The timber eaves cornice has double modillions, and the roof is gabled with a ridge stack located to the right of the door and a north internal gable end stack.
The rear elevation showcases coursed knapped flint with brick detailing, and there is an opposing entrance behind a 20th-century pedimented doorcase. The scattered fenestration includes a combination of 18th, 19th, and 20th-century casements and sashes. An outshut on the north gable wall encloses a 15th-century brick external solar staircase, which is now blocked. The north wall of the outshut features a blocked 6-light timber mullioned window from the 16th century. The interior has been significantly altered, but it includes one large arched brace of the hall that rises to the first floor and is now enclosed by later partitions, as well as one jewel stopped bridging beam to the first floor.
