Description
The Friary, a 17th-century house located on Mariner's Hill in Blakeney, is constructed from flint and brick, with the east front being whitewashed. It features a steep pantile roof with gabled ends and brick coping, and it stands two storeys tall with approximately six bays. The windows are mainly modern casements with glazing bars or leaded panes, while No. 2 has a large three-light casement and sash with glazing bars.
On the right side of the building, No. 1 has a two-storey porch made of flint and brick, dating from the 17th century, which includes a brick parapet, a chamfered brick arched entrance, and a first-floor window with later brick and tile pediments. Inside the porch is a notable 17th-century doorway featuring moulded jambs and a four-centered arch head with carved spandrels, along with the original door that has fillet moulds. The door for No. 2 is from the 18th century, with fielded panels set in a heavy doorcase.
The rear (west) side of the building is rendered and has two-light wood mullion/transom casements. There is a central external chimney stack that has been truncated, and a window and doorway have been inserted. A lean-to is located on the left side, and there are chimney stacks at each end as well as one off-centre.
