Description
Abbey Farmhouse, dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, is constructed of flint and 18th-century red brick. It features brick dentil eaves and a string course, topped by a steep gable-ended roof covered with mostly black-glazed pantiles. The building has two storeys and nine irregularly-spaced windows, including one and two-light casements and five sashes with glazing bars, three of which have thick glazing bars. A fielded-panel door is located at the center, with two modern metal-frame windows and a door at the south end, known as The Cottage. There is an off-centre brick chimney stack at the north end, and the rear has sashes with glazing bars.
Inside, the ground floor includes a room with 17th-century panelling, an 18th-century cornice, and a moulded beam. Another ground floor room features a late 16th or early 17th-century moulded beam and fielded-panel doors. Attached outbuildings are located at either end of the farmhouse. The north end, likely from the 17th century, is built of rubble with a pantile roof and brick coping on the gabled ends. It contains a fireplace with moulded stone jambs, probably sourced from elsewhere, and a wide cambered timber bressummer. The south end, dating from the 17th or 18th century, is a long range with a steep pantile roof and is constructed of brick and flint.
