Description

The Church of St Maurice is a parish church with flint walls and a black pantile roof, dating from around 1300, with later additions. It features a nave and chancel, along with a three-stage south-west tower that includes a porch and four Y tracery bell-opening windows. The nave has three bays, highlighted by a 3-light switch tracery west window from the same period.

On the south wall of the nave, there is one 2-light decorated window and one 4-light decorated window showcasing elaborate curvilinear tracery and mouchettes. The north wall has a blocked north door and two 2-light decorated windows. The chancel's south wall includes two 2-light windows with straight heads, a partly exposed squint, and a priest's door. The north chancel wall has one 2-light window and a late 19th-century lean-to vestry. The chancel east window is a three-light curvilinear design with mouchettes.

Inside, the nave contains a 14th-century font and a piscina in the south nave wall. In the embrasure of the 4-light window, there are re-set 12th-century colonnettes and capitals. The chancel arch, piscina, and sedilia, adorned with ball flower mouldings, date from around 1300. Two empty niches with curvilinear designs flank the east window. The communion rail features re-used 18th-century balusters, and there is a Gothic organ from around 1800. The roofs of the nave and chancel were added in the 19th century, and the north window of the chancel is stained glass, dating from around 1850.
