Description

Briningham House is a Grade II* listed house built in 1838, showcasing Greek Revival architecture. It is constructed of gault brick with a slated roof and features a four-square cube design over two storeys. The front has three bays, while the return has five bays. The entrance front is accentuated by doubled end pilasters and single pilasters flanking the central bay. There are two sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor and three on the first floor. A stone porch supported by unfluted Greek Doric columns and antae leads to a part-glazed door with margin lights.

The garden side also has five sash windows with glazing bars, along with double end pilasters and single pilasters at the central bay. The house has prominent eaves, although the cornice above the pilaster capitals is missing. The shallow hipped roof is topped with two stacks on the ridges. To the west, there is a two-bay, two-storey service wing featuring sash windows with glazing bars.

Inside, there is a large mid-18th century oak staircase that wraps around three sides of a well, complete with a landing. The staircase has three twisted balusters per thread, carved strings, panelled risers, and wall panelling. The landing is adorned with a frieze of egg and dart and modillions, while the rail features swan's neck sweeps at each junction.
