Description
The Church of St. Mary, now in ruins, is a medieval structure located in Burgh Parva, Melton Constable. The remains include a tower, which was rebuilt in 1504, and some footings of the church. The building is constructed from flint with stone dressings. Notable features include a Perpendicular west window that retains its tracery heads, and the belfry, which has four 2-light Perpendicular windows adorned with trefoil cusping and old moulds. The belfry stage is made of knapped flint, while the battlements are constructed from early 19th century gault brick. The presence of conglomerate quoins on the west gable and two rubble dressed openings at the southwest suggest that parts of the structure may date back to before 1100.
