Description

This is a barn dating from around 1700, constructed of red brick with a red tile roof. The west gable features a brick plinth, two ground floor windows, a central door, a first-floor platband, and a tripartite casement window. Above is a gable with three honeycomb brick ventilation windows. The east gable has six openings and two blocked windows, both with kneelers and crow-stepped battlements. The north and south frontages have ranges of honeycomb openings divided by a platband, now disrupted by later additions. An elaborate eaves cornice is formed of moulded brick modillions. The interior features a 7-bay roof with tie beams carried on brick pilasters with arched wooden braces, three rows of purlins, and wind bracing. Details of the exterior and interior are comparable to those of a barn dated 1710 at Dairy Farm, Melton Constable Park. Additions to the north and south sides are not considered to be of architectural significance.
