Description

This is a late 16th-century timber-framed building on the High Street. It is two storeys high with an attic. The first floor is jettied, displaying close-set studding and infilling with painted brick and plaster. The ground floor is plastered. The roof is steeply pitched, covered with black-glazed pantiles and has coped gable ends and overhanging eaves. Six sash windows are located on the first floor, featuring glazing bars within moulded window frames with crenellated sills and heads. The ground floor has three smaller shop windows; the central one is from the mid-18th century with a cornice, the right-hand one is from the mid-18th century with a fixed multi-pane window and a crenellated cornice above, and the left-hand window is likely from the late 19th century and is a three-light design. A panelled double door with a rectangular fanlight sits within a moulded doorcase on the left side, while a glazed double door is on the right. Two flat-roofed dormers are visible, one with leaded panes. Brick chimney stacks are positioned off-centre and at the north end of the building. The building is designated Grade II* for group value.
