Description

Dow House is an early 16th century timber-frame building located on the west side of Little Walsingham High Street. It has a gable-ended pantile roof. The first floor is jettied, featuring close-set studding and red brick infill. The ground floor is constructed of red brick and flint. Later, probably in the late 17th or early 18th century, wood mullion and transom casements with leaded panes were added; there are two on the ground floor and five on the first floor. The ground floor on the right has sash windows with glazing bars. A central door has fielded panels and glazed upper panels. A carved stone animal head corbel sits under the overhang on the left. Inside the building, integrated into the original rear wall, is a small wooden doorway with a four-centred arch. The building is designated Grade II* for its group value.
