Description

Old Hall is a house located in East Runton, dating from the early 17th century and extensively remodeled between 1909 and 1910, possibly by the architect Baillie-Scott. The building is constructed of brick and flint with a pantile roof, and its plan is now irregular. The east facade, which is from the 17th century, has two storeys and three irregular bays. There is an off-centre gabled porch, with the lower parts in brick but largely obscured by vegetation, featuring an almost semicircular headed archway.

On the first floor, there is a two-light mullion and transom window, along with a small light to the north in chamfered reveals. To the right of the porch, the ground floor consists of 17th-century brick with a timber three-light 20th-century mullion window in chamfered reveals. To the left of the porch, there is a larger timber five-light 20th-century mullion window. The first floor has flint walling, a two-light casement window to the left of the porch, and another two-light mullion and transom window to the right. The building features an axial stack with two moulded brick shafts.

Projecting forward to the right is an early 20th-century gabled wing. The rear of the 17th-century range was remodeled in the early 20th century, although the lower parts of an external stack on the southern room date back to the 17th century. Inside, there are double ovolo mouldings on the beam in the southern room, along with many moulded beams of various dates, likely introduced during the 1909-10 renovations. An archaic moulded plaster fireplace is dated 1909. The garden is said to have been designed by Gertrude Jekyll.
