Description
Flint House and the attached wall, built around 1840 and later extended in the 19th century, is located on the south side of Runton High Street in East Runton. The facade features flint gallets set in black mortar, complemented by rendered and painted brick dressings. The rear and gable ends are constructed from coursed flint pebbles with brick dressings, and part of the right gable end is rendered. The building has a pantile roof with a left ridge and truncated right end stacks. It is two storeys high and has a three-window range, with an additional window bay on the left. The windows are 8/8 sashes, and there is a blind window above a central four-panel door with an overlight. The left bay originally had a carriage entrance, which is now blocked and contains a plank door and a two-light casement window with a three-light casement above. The right gable features a datestone inscribed with "WS 18-" (the rest is indecipherable). The rear of the house includes 8/8 sashes, a sash with margin glazing, casement windows, doors, and two lean-tos linked by a flint pebble wall. Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase, four-panel doors, and two fireplaces with cast-iron grates. The galletted flint facade is a rare construction technique specific to the small area around Cromer and Sheringham.
