Description
The Grove is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a single dwelling. It dates from the early 18th century and is constructed of red brick stretchers with black headers in Flemish bond, topped with a red pantiled roof. The building is one storey high with attics and features six windows on the ground floor, which include partly cast-iron casements with glazing bars and some with rubbed brick flat arches. There is a central boarded door, while other doorways have been filled in. A platband runs along the building, and there are five attic dormers, some of which have cast iron 2-light casements with glazing bars. The end gables are adorned with kneelers and Dutch gables; the west gable has a partly indecipherable date-stone, possibly from 1723, while the east gable has been partly rebuilt in the 20th century. The original stack is located at the west end, with 20th-century stacks at the ridge and east end. The rear of the building features an outshut. Inside, there are some chamfered and stopped beams, along with two-panel raised and fielded doors that have IL hinges. It is presumed that this building was constructed by the same builder and around the same time as the barn located to the east.
