Description
Nos. 5 to 11 on Clarke's Lane are a row of four cottages built in the early 18th century. They are constructed of red brick and topped with red pantiled roofs. The cottages are one storey high with attics. Each cottage features a single ground floor two-light casement window with glazing bars set under arched heads, along with boarded doors that were replaced in the 20th century. There is a brick dentil eaves cornice, four dormers—one with a three-light casement and three with two-light casements, all having glazing bars. The row has two ridge stacks and distinctive single-light dormers with glazing bars at the rear. The west end has a shaped gable with inserted 20th-century openings. The regularity of the design indicates that these cottages were originally built as a terrace.
