Description

This is a mid-19th century house, originally a barn that was converted and remodelled into a rectory by the Scott-Chad family, who were patrons of the local living and resided at Thursford Hall. The house is constructed of red brick with blue brick dressings and red pantiled roofs. The original barn forms the rear section of the building, with two gabled wings extending from it, and a lean-to outshut set at a right angle. The front, which faces south-east, is the gable end and features a ground-floor four-light window with a four-centred arched casement, and a first-floor two-light casement. A blue brick diaper pattern on the brickwork forms St. Andrew's crosses. The gable has a crow-stepped design with a set-back entrance, buttresses at the angles, a ground-floor single-light casement, and a first-floor two-light casement. A 20th-century porch covers a part-glazed door. A stack is located on the north side of the lean-to. The garden front, which faces east, has a brick stack and two round chimney shafts. To the west is a ground-floor pair of 20th-century French doors and, above, two four-light, four-centred windows and a single four-light casement to the staircase. A chimney with two round stacks and black header decoration includes a moulded brick corbelling course. The rear portion of the building, the former barn, has two storeys and a central gabled dormer. Internally, the staircase has chamfered newels.
