Description
Model Farmhouse is a house, now partly used as an agricultural store, built in 1786 by Samuel Wyatt. It is constructed of gault brick and features a hipped slate roof. The building has two storeys and is adorned with sash windows that include glazing bars. The principal ground floor windows are set in segmental-headed recessed openings, although many window openings have been blocked.
On the south facade, there is a central projecting porch with a pierced and moulded brick balustrade, complete with corner ball finials. The entrance features a pedimented brick door surround with rusticated pilasters and a semi-circular arched door opening that includes a keystone. Above the door, there is a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. A plain stone band runs along the first floor cill level, and flat rubbed brick arches are present over the first floor openings. The building has a plain brick parapet on a coved and moulded eaves cornice, and a two-storey canted bay is located on the east side. On the north side, there is a large opening with a pediment supported by square Doric pilasters.
To the west, there is a lower T-shaped wing made of gault brick with hipped slate roofs. This wing features a plain brick string and moulded brick eaves, as well as sash windows with glazing bars. Two chimney stacks are positioned along the ridge line. A small courtyard to the west is enclosed by one-storey service buildings.
The east block of the farmhouse was originally built as "The New Inn" to accommodate guests visiting Holkham Park for the sheep-shearings.
