Description
Nos 39 and 41 on Front Street are a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century. They are constructed from cut flint with whitewashed brick dressings and feature a red pantile roof. The cottages are two storeys high.
No. 41 has a blackened flint plinth and on the ground floor, it has four three-light iron framed casement windows set under arched brick heads with block surrounds, along with one single light window. The entrance features a simple boarded door with one glazed panel and is topped by a pentice hood supported by iron brackets, which is from the 19th century. The first floor has three three-light windows and two single light windows. The building has whitewashed end quoins and similar internal quoins that mark the bay at the northern end. A broad whitewashed plaster eaves band and deep unmoulded eaves are present, along with a gable stack and a central 20th-century stack.
No. 39 features two three-light casements made of cast iron with glazing bars, white end quoins, and whitewashed base and lintels. It has a boarded door and whitened brick end quoins and eaves band. There is a party stack shared with No. 41.
