Description
No. 7, St James’ Street is a building dating from 1858, originally the Lynn Savings Bank and now used as a meeting house. Constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and a slate roof, it is planned on a double-pile layout and built in the Tudor Gothic style. The two-bay facade has the right-hand (east) bay set back, which features a four-centered arch doorway with a cusped overlight. The left bay incorporates a five-light transomed window at ground floor level and an oriel window above. The oriel window is supported on a corbelled apron and features a carved pelican, representing hope and optimism, a fitting image for a savings institution. The oriel's lights are transomed and cusped. A shouldered gable is positioned above the oriel. A crenellated parapet sits above the right bay. Gabled roofs complete the structure.
