Description
The Wimbotsham and Stow Bardolph War Memorial is a grey granite cross located on the green at the west end of Church Road. It stands within a small railed enclosure and features a rough-hewn wheel-head cross with a sword of sacrifice carved in relief on its front. The cross is set on a tapering plinth with a single-stepped base.
The lower part of the shaft and the plinth display inscriptions from the First World War in applied metal lettering, while the base includes an addition for the Second World War. The inscription on the front face of the cross shaft reads: "GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918/ SACRED TO THE/ MEMORY OF THE/ GALLANT FALLEN/ FROM/ WIMBOTSHAM AND/ STOW BARDOLPH." The names of those commemorated from the First World War are listed in two columns on the front face of the plinth, and the Second World War inscription is found on the step below, stating: "WORLD WAR – 1939 – 1945/ (3 NAMES)."
