Description

The carriage block located 50 metres north-east of Barwick House dates back to 1748. It is constructed of English bond red brick and features a red pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and five bays. On the ground floor, there are five segmental arch cart openings, of which two are bricked up and three have 20th-century double doors. The first floor includes five openings: three brick honeycomb ventilation openings and two open windows with wooden mullion divisions. A first-floor plat-band and a four-course moulded brick eaves cornice enhance the structure.

The west gable has one first-floor open window with wooden mullions set under a cambered brick arch, along with a blank brick opening above that features a brick arch, imposts, and a keystone. There is a plaque in the head that reads "Robert Glover 1748." The gable is finished with tumbled brick and a coped parapet. A similar blank arch and gable can be found on the east side. The rear, facing south, has two outshuts made of brick, with the centre section constructed from knapped flint rubble and some galleting, topped with a three-course dentil dogtooth eaves cornice. This building was built by Robert Glover, who was also responsible for Barwick House, its stable block, and Ivy Farm Barn in Stanhoe. A single-storey stable addition to the north is not considered of special interest.
