Description
The building is the County Court, constructed in 1861. It is made of gault brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof, designed in the Italian palazzo style. The structure has two storeys and an attic, arranged in five bays with an arched opening pattern of 1-3-1. The ground floor features stone quoins, sash windows with glazing bars, and keystones. The central three openings have rusticated surrounds, with the left opening being the entrance that has a double-leaf panelled door. A heavy string course with dentils runs above the ground floor, almost resembling a cornice.
On the first floor, the windows are fitted with 20th-century casements, and the arched sections of the windows still have their margin glazing. Above these, a continuous string course leads to an overhanging cornice that is characteristic of the palazzo style, which also features five small attic windows. The cornice displays an achievement carrying the Royal Arms. The hipped roof has four irregularly placed stacks, each topped with its own cornice. The two-bay south return mirrors this design.
The facade is complemented by railings consisting of gault brick piers, iron stiles with scrolled braces, square section verticals, and pyramid finials. Inside, only the staircase remains, featuring paired cast-iron decorative balusters and a wreathed handrail.
