Description

Nos. 51, 52, and 53 on Norfolk Street in King's Lynn are three properties, originally likely built as houses and shops, but now functioning solely as shops. They date back to the early 17th century and are constructed of brick with some rubblestone, topped with a pantiled roof. The buildings are two storeys high with a dormer attic. The facades of Nos. 52 and 53 have been refronted, while No. 51 has been rendered and lacks the bell-base on the roof. No. 51 features a 20th-century shopfront and one horned sash window on the first floor, each with a single glazing bar. No. 52 has a late 20th-century door to the right of its early 20th-century shopfront, which also has glazing bars, and a similar horned sash window above. No. 53 includes a late 20th-century shopfront below two horned sashes on the first floor, with details consistent with the other properties. A timber eaves cornice with egg-and-dart decoration runs over Nos. 52 and 53. The gabled roof has two gabled dormers symmetrically placed, and there is a quadruple diamond-flued ridge stack located left of centre. The rear of No. 53 has various 19th and 20th-century extensions. Inside, the first floor retains chamfered bridging beams with tongue stops and plain joists, though the roof is not accessible.
