Description

The garden walls, gateway, and attached gazebo at Hillington Hall, located approximately 40 meters south of the stables, date from the 18th century and later, with the gazebo constructed around 1830 by W.J. Donthorne. The garden walls form two rectangular sections; the eastern wall is an earlier 18th-century construction made of red brick, faced externally in shell carstone, possibly modified around 1830 by Donthorne.

The gateway is situated in the east wall and features square brick piers topped with large stone balls. It includes a pair of wrought iron gates adorned with scroll work on the dog bars and upper bars, along with a foliage overthrow that incorporates a rondel with the monogram "RE" and the smaller letters "EJ" below.

The gazebo, designed by Donthorne around 1830, is attached to the southeast of the garden walls and faces east. It is built of shell carstone with stone dressings and consists of a single bay and a single storey. It has a large open recess behind a 4-centred arch, a stepped gable parapet above with a string course, and a shield emblazoned with a fleur de lys, along with diagonal buttresses. The rear wall of the gazebo is constructed in red brick.
