Description

Ivy Cottage and Goose Bec are a pair of buildings located on the north side of the Market Place in Burnham Market. Ivy Cottage, to the west, dates from the 18th century and is constructed of red brick with a red tile roof. It is two storeys high and has two windows. The ground floor features 20th-century bay window additions. The upper floor has two sash windows with plate glass dating to around 1900. A panelled door is set within a moulded architrave, with decorative brackets resembling Corinthian capital volutes cut in half. The building has a steeply pitched roof with a single axial chimney stack.

Goose Bec, attached to the east, is also of red brick with a red tile roof and is two storeys high with three windows. The ground floor has one window, and the first floor has three sash windows with plate glass. A bay window has been added to the ground floor. A good doorcase dating to around 1800 features fluted pilasters and a frieze panel; it includes a partly glazed door. Raised brick rusticated quoins at the east and west form end pilasters, while two end stacks are present. Ivy Cottage is included on the list primarily due to its contribution to the group value of the buildings in the area.
