Description

This house, divided into three properties, likely started around 1600 and was probably re-faced in the 18th century, with alterations and extensions added in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The external appearance is brick in English bond, with flint returns and red brick dressings. The roof is tiled with pantiles. Originally a three-cell lobby-entry plan, the main entrance has now been blocked. The house is two storeys high, with a first-floor band. A boarded door is on the left side of the original left-hand cell. There are three three-light timber casement windows on the ground floor, each beneath a segmental arch. Above these are three similar three-light windows on the first floor. A blocked opening is located in front of a chimney stack. An axial brick chimney stack is located internally, along with gable and ridge stacks; the stack on the right-hand side was removed at ground floor level when an early 20th-century canted bay window was added. The left-hand gable features an 18th-century apex, while the right-hand gable shows layers of tumbling from the 17th and later centuries.

Inside Ardmore House (the right-hand section), the axial beam is chamfered with bar stops, alongside flat joists. The central cell has a plain chamfered beam and flat joists. The left-hand cell had its floor replaced in the 20th century following a fire. An original chimney stack is partially blocked on the right side. A staircase is located behind the stack. The roof has been replaced with butt purlins.
