Description
This house, now a guest house, was built around 1840, as it appears on a map of 1846 but not one from 1830. It is constructed of brown brick with slate roofs, and features stucco dressings. The building has three storeys and faces east onto London Road, and south onto South Everard Street.
The east front has two bays. The ground floor features rusticated corner and centre pieces separating two sash windows with glazing bars, each set under a gauged skewback arch. The first floor is similar, but the rusticated elements are replaced by thin paired Tuscan pilasters, and the sashes are French windows beneath hoods. A decorated iron balcony runs along this floor. A cornice sits above, followed by a top floor with plain corner and centre pieces separating smaller sash windows, again with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. A parapet sits below a hipped roof.
The south front is divided into a three-bay main block to the east and a two-storey, three-bay block to the west. The main block is entered through double doors set within a doorcase consisting of a pair of stucco Tuscan pilasters with two columns in antis, also of the same order, and a simple hood. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, and gauged skewback arches. Two upper window bays to the west are blind. Stucco string courses run at the first and second floors, extending into the west block. The ground floor of the west block features three 4-centred wall arches: the eastern two are blind, and the third contains a sash window as previously described. The first floor has two sashes separated by a blind window. This block has a hipped roof.
