Description

Abbey Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse located adjacent to an Augustinian Priory. It features re-used dressed limestone with some carstone, and is topped with blue glazed and red pantiles. The building has three bays, two storeys, and an attic, with the principal facade facing west. This facade includes a brick platband and brick quoins at the first floor, with 2-light casements set under flat arches in bays one and three. There are two roof dormers with casements. The central bay is made of ashlar and has a pediment, with a large 4-centred chamfered arch that has been infilled with wooden boards and an inserted door, framed by a square-headed surround. To the right and left of the arch are semi-circular headed niches.

There are single-storey additions on both sides of the farmhouse, constructed with re-used materials and featuring hipped pantile roofs. These additions have 20th-century Gothick openings with brick dressings, and there is a doorway to the left of the left addition. The right return, facing south, is made of carstone rubble with some stone, featuring a small opening at the first floor and a blocked opening in the attic. The left return, facing north, showcases carstone and limestone chequerwork on the gable. The rear, facing east, is constructed of galletted carstone and limestone, adorned with a late 15th-century terracotta fleur de lys. There are two forward single-storey extensions with hipped roofs, one of which incorporates medieval stonework, including a lion's head, an inverted angel corbel, and figure stops.

Inside, the farmhouse features a pair of 15th-century pepperpot turrets in stone that flank an inserted stair located in the central cell at the rear of the west facade on the first floor.
