Description
Crossgates Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse located on Pentney Abbey Road. It is constructed from uncoursed galletted carstone rubble, with stone quoins on the left and brick on the right, topped with pantiles. The building features three bays and two storeys, characterized by a dentil cornice and flush sash windows with glazing bars. The central doorway has a coped canopy, and a 19th-century door has been inserted into an earlier opening. There are large internal stacks at both ends of the house. To the left, there is a low two-bay single-storey extension with a central axial stack, which includes a three-light casement and a 20th-century two-light casement. The rear of the farmhouse has a continuous added outshut made of galletted carstone rubble with some brick, and it features a plinth made of 18th-century brick. The returns of the building include some dressed limestone and limestone quoins, with the left return having two parabolic brick arches leading to a basement that has been infilled with carstone; one window on the ground floor is blocked while another has been inserted.
