Description

A row of six cottages, originally a barn, dating from circa 1700 in Holme-Next-the-Sea. The building features a carstone plinth, walls constructed of squared and coursed clunch with red “garnetting” or galleting (red chalk inclusions), brick dressings, and a red pantiled roof.

The north-facing elevation has four ground-floor and four first-floor casement windows on each level, all arched-headed and with brick dressings. The east ground-floor section includes an inserted 20th-century window, two two-light casements with vertical glazing bars, and one sash window with glazing bars. A part-glazed door is also present. The first floor has five two-light casements, retaining complete glazing bars for three on the eastern side and single glazing bars on the western side. Brick quoins are visible, along with a brick dentil eaves cornice and brick coped parapets. The building has two off-axis ridge party stacks and an east-end gable stack.

A single-storey shop is attached to the west, constructed of clunch with brick dressings, featuring a red chalk west gable and a pantiled roof. The east gable has been built up with clunch from a lower pitch of red chalk, while the west gable incorporates a brick gable from an earlier structure. The south side displays clunch with garnetting, brick-dressed openings, and wedge-roofed dormers.
