Description
Ringstead Mill is an early 19th-century tower windmill constructed of header bond gault brick, which is partly blackened. It features a temporary 20th-century asbestos roof. The mill stands six stories tall, with the cap creating an additional storey. The south face has a ground floor door from the 20th century in its original opening, which is topped by a flat arch made of gault brick with a central keystone. Four of the five floors above have one 2-light casement window each, also under flat arches with keystones, and the first-floor window displays a rampant lion crest.
On the west face, there are four openings, with the third-floor opening having once served as a loft door. The north face has five openings, while the east face features one boarded 2-leaf loft door and one casement window. The mill has a brick eaves cornice and a wooden shuttered skirt, which may be original. On the north face, there is a surviving metal canister for six sails. The cap is covered with 20th-century asbestos. A house built around 1920 attached to the east is not considered of special interest.
