Description

The Ringstead War Memorial was erected around 1920, following the First World War, with a further inscription added after the Second World War. It is situated in the churchyard of the Church of St Andrew, alongside the High Street. The memorial stands on a paved platform, accessible by steps leading up from the pavement. It is constructed from red granite and takes the form of a polished Celtic cross with a tapered shaft, resting on a trapezoidal plinth and a rough-hewn square granite base. The plinth bears a leaded inscription "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THE RINGSTEAD/ MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR. 1914 – 1918./ (NAMES)/ ‘HE THAT LOSETH HIS LIFE FOR/ MY SAKE SHALL FIND IT’”. A granite panel inscribed 1939–1945/ (NAMES) is set into the base of the memorial.
