Description
The stable block, located 50 metres east of Burnham Westgate Hall, was built around 1783, possibly by Sir John Soane. It features a gault brick facade with red brick returns, and has replacement red pantiles on the north side, along with black glazed pantiles in the center and on the south side. The building is a single storey with seven bays, including a three-bay pedimented center and hipped end bays that are returned. Each bay has a semi-circular window with a rubbed brick arch, the widest of which is above the central door. The north and south sides have recessed panels below the windows, articulated with pilasters. There is one 20th-century door on the north side and one door with three 20th-century casement windows on the south side. The stable block has a stone plinth, a stone platband that forms imposts to the arched openings, and a brick dentil eaves cornice at the eaves and pediment.
