Description
The South Creake War Memorial is a First World War memorial, built around 1920. It is made of grey granite and flint and is located on a triangular green at the junction of Bluestone Road and the B1355, next to the River Burn in South Creake, Norfolk. The memorial stands prominently in an open grassed area and features a rough-hewn wheel-head cross that is approximately 2.5 meters tall, set on a plinth with a single-stepped base. This base has been raised to accommodate an additional base that displays the inscriptions for the Second World War.
The inscriptions are crafted in leaded lettering and read: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND/ THE MEN OF SOUTH CREAKE/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918/ (NAMES)/ IN PROUD REMEMBRANCE/ SECOND WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES)."
